James has been addressing wealthy people who are hoarding money in these Last Days, and not paying proper wages to their workers…
You have lived on the earth in luxury and in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. (James 5:5)
Verse 5 pictures cattle being fattened for slaughter. These men were “fattening” themselves in self-indulgence, for what? For Judgment Day? These men were being wasteful, while their workers had very little. They were hoarding riches – more than what they would have time in this life to use – as if their possessions were a measure of their personal worth. Jesus had warned us about this type of attitude:
And He said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of His possessions.” (Luke 12:15)
Your value is not defined by your financial net worth. You are created in the image of God, and to Him you are worth more than all the money in the world. He values your soul, and He wants you to love and believe in His Son, so that you can be with Him for all eternity.
Today’s Good News is that God values you so much that He gave up His own Son to save you.
Now, go share the Good News…
