In the final verses of Chapter 4, James tells us not to boast about tomorrow…
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit” – (James 4:13)
I will reserve part of my commentary on this for a day or two, as we wait to go further into the passage. For now, I’d like to say something about cancelled plans. People often get upset – even angry – when something happens to change or cancel their plans. One of the kids gets sick, or the van breaks down, or the weather doesn’t cooperate, or someone else cancels and doesn’t show up. I know it can be frustrating, especially when you were really looking forward to the activity you had planned. However, I encourage you to keep your cool when your plans don’t pan out. God may be sparing you from something bad that would happen if you went to that place and did that thing. Please don’t blame God for “ruining” your day. Embrace Plan B as a blessing in disguise!
Today’s Good News is that God protects us even when we don’t realize He is doing it.
Now, go share the Good News…
