The Character of Christ

April 20, 2018

(Part #10)

For the past nine days, I have posted a series of devotionals called What I Love about Jesus.  Each day we focused on one of His character qualities.  Let’s review those nine qualities:

(1) Love

(2) Joy

(3) Peace

(4) Patience

(5) Kindness

(6) Goodness

(7) Faithfulness

(8) Gentleness

(9) Self-Control

Now where have we heard these before?

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (Galatians 5:22-23)

These are what we call the Fruit of the Spirit.  Congratulations to those of you who figured out where I was going with this series when you read Part #2.  (If anyone had it figured out at Part #1, you are simply amazing!)

Why would I use the Fruit of the Spirit in describing Jesus?  It’s because the Holy Spirit is His Spirit.  When we accept Jesus as our Saviour, His Spirit comes to live inside of us.  The Holy Spirit’s job is to make us more like Jesus, by developing the character of Christ in us.  So when the apostle Paul listed the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5, he was describing the Character of Christ.  Jesus is the perfect example of all nine qualities.

He is our perfect God who came in the flesh as a perfect Man to model for us a perfect life.  He laid down His life on the Cross to pay the penalty for your sin and mine.  He rose again on the third day in victory over sin and death.  He is alive today, and will grant eternal life to all who believe in Him as their Saviour.

My prayer for you today is simple:  (1) That you will confess your sin to Jesus, and accept Him as your Lord & Saviour.  (2) That His Holy Spirit will develop the Character of Christ in you.

When we ask God’s Holy Spirit to grow His fruit in our lives, we are essentially asking Him to make us more like Jesus!  And by the way...

What I love about Jesus is EVERYTHING!

Today’s Good News is that you will become more like Jesus if you have His Spirit living inside of you.
