WHAT I LOVE ABOUT JESUS
A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. (Proverbs 11:17)
Kindness works. If you are kind, people will respect you and you will have more friends. Some people will go the extra mile to help you, because you are a nice person. However, kindness isn’t something we should practice just to benefit ourselves. It is something we should practice because we want to be more like Jesus.
Jesus was the kindest Person who ever lived. To put it simply, He was kind to everyone, but we will still reflect on some examples of His kindness…
Jesus was kind to children. When the disciples rebuked people for bringing their children to Jesus, He said, “Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14b) He was kind to sick people, showing compassion for them and taking the time to heal them. He was kind to sinners, so much so that He was criticized for socializing with them. He was kind to His friends. Instead of scolding them for falling asleep while He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, He let them rest. He was kind to His opposition, like the time He healed Malchus’ ear, even though Malchus was part of a group that was there to arrest Him. He was kind to His family; from the Cross, He arranged for John to take care of His mother after He was gone. Finally, He is kind to us, and that was a big factor in our getting saved.
Or do you presume on the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? (Romans 2:4)
If Jesus was a stern Saviour, few people would come to Him for salvation. His kindness is one of the reasons we are drawn to Him. As His ambassadors, He wants us to emulate His kindness, so that others will be drawn to Him, too.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32)
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)
Love is patient and kind… (1 Corinthians 13:4a)
Kindness is a choice that we need to make each day. We will find ourselves in many situations where the easy choice is to be abrasive, sarcastic, or angry. Kindness is a tougher choice, but it works. It will benefit others, and it will benefit you. I dare you to give it a try.
I love Jesus’ Kindness.
Today’s Good News is that our Saviour is kind. When we emulate His kindness we show the world what He is like, and His Holy Spirit uses us to draw the world to Him.
