Happy Birthday, Dad!

April 5, 2018

Most men will proclaim each his own goodness,

But who can find a faithful man?

The righteous man walks in his integrity;

His children are blessed after him.

(Proverbs 20:6-7 NKJV)

I am happy to report that my brothers and I have found such a faithful man.  He has walked with integrity all his life, and we are blessed to be his sons.

Today (April 5) is my dad’s 80th birthday!  He has always been my hero.  I know that he is not perfect, but in my eyes he’s about as close to perfect as a human being can get on this side of Heaven.  A kinder, gentler man you simply will not meet.

He is a great pastor, but first and foremost he is a fine example of a Christian.  The man that congregations have seen in the pulpit over the years is the same man we saw at home while growing up.  He was incredibly patient and seldom raised his voice.  He served his family well, always putting our needs and preferences above his own.  He led us to Jesus and taught us the Bible, believing that every word of it is true.

I remember the day in 1986 when Mom came home from taking Dad to the hospital and told me that he had a heart attack.  At that time he was a few weeks shy of 48 years old.  Here we are now 32 years later!  I am thankful that my children are able to know and love him.  (They adore their Grandpa.)

On this 5th day of April, 2018, I have great reason to celebrate.  I am not a gambler and I will never win the lottery, but in regards to the father I was given, I feel like I hit the jackpot.

Happy Birthday, Dad!  I love you, and I am blessed to be your son.

Today’s Good News is that Pastor Reg Babbey is 80 years young.
